About town

So I've grown to love this phone in my pocket. There was a time when I thought there was no way I would, I was a film only photographer, old school forever. I've learned in recent years that the tools I use are not so important though. Sure, the tones and characteristics of my favorite Kodak film are beautiful and the results from the Hasselblad can still make me weak at the knees. But a great photo is about capturing a moment, not the camera in my hands. And I'm not about to launch into a film vs digital debate here, I'm just enjoying the freedom I've found in not being tied to my tools.

Of course, I'll always shoot with my DSLR and film for professional work, and film will always be a first love. But this? This is perfect for my personal adventures and random happenings. And I'm sure my friends are used to me snapping photos mid-conversation by now, but this must be much less distracting than the old 'blad! It's the spontaneity and discreetness of this little thing that I love. Plus, the editing capabilitities have me charmed too. Especially the new vsco cam and it's subtle film-like effects.

Breakfast at Michelle's place

A few weeks ago I spent a Sunday morning with some of my favorite people, the lovely Michelle and her boys, Dan and little Daniel. Dan made his Legendary Omelettes while we played on the floor. We had pretend phone calls, listened to the rain outside and smelled wonderful things coming from the kitchen.

Daniel is so adorable and his Dad's omelettes are indeed legendary. I can't wait to spend some more time shooting with these guys.

West end

Just spent a rainy afternoon in West End. Mostly in a cosy cafe and partly wandering the streets with my phone and trying out the new VSCO Cam app. My review? Very nice. This might be love.

Alarna + Dave // Waiting for Ada

Alarna and Dave recently welcomed their beautiful baby girl into the world. A few days before she was due, I spent an afternoon with them capturing some of their last moments together as a couple. Now they are a family of three. Little Ada is so beautiful, and so very lucky to have these guys as parents.

Greek By Heritage, Italian By Heart // a cookbook

I'm particularly excited to share this photography project, which has been in the making for the past few months. Marcia Georges of Il Centro restaurant has been working on her own cookbook, a project very close to her heart. Greek By Heritage, Italian By Heart is filled with recipes and stories from her childhood, her heritage and from her own restaurant (one of my absolute favorites).

I've been working closely with the talented guys from Generator to photograph Marcia's home cooked recipes. We're putting some finishing touches on the book, due for release very soon.

Not only is this a book filled with wonderful recipes, but it's for a very good cause. Tragically, Marcia lost her son to Cancer in 2009. Her ebook will be given away online, freely, with the request that if you like her recipes, you make a small donation to the Cancer and Bowel Research Trust. Her book will be embedded with direct links throughout which will take you to her donation page webpage.

Marcia is looking to raise $100,000, and with our support I know she can do it.

To stay tuned and be first in line for a copy of the ebook, visit Il Centro and sign-up on their Facebook page or website

Shooting for a cook book has been a wonderful experience, one I hope to repeat soon.
